Chapter 3 - The Forged Signature

The blistering Miami heat felt completely suffocating as Mister Miller's horrifying words echoed in my mind.

Fifty million dollars in illegal debt was enough to completely bankrupt Apex Holdings and send me directly to federal prison for corporate fraud.

Spencer stood confidently behind the iron bars of the gate, tightly holding the eviction notice like a victorious trophy.

"You see, Laura, I finally figured out your little billionaire secret a few months ago when I found your hidden tax documents," Spencer gloated with a wicked smile.

"I desperately needed capital to expand my construction business, so I simply signed your important name on a few minor bank forms," he admitted with absolutely no remorse.

"If you aggressively try to evict me or ruin my beautiful wedding today, I will personally ensure those angry lenders come directly after you," Spencer threatened loudly.

Arthur Sterling took a slow, terrified step away from his new son-in-law.

"You borrowed fifty million dollars from the Delgado cartel?" Arthur whispered in sheer, unadulterated horror.

"I am a brilliant businessman, Arthur, I know exactly how to manage aggressive financial leverage," Spencer defended himself proudly.

"You are a dead man walking, Spencer," Arthur replied before violently grabbing Penelope by her sweaty arm.

"We are leaving this cursed property right now before those violent cartel debt collectors show up and murder everyone," Arthur ordered his crying daughter.

Penelope violently yanked her arm out of her father's aggressive grip, her perfectly manicured nails digging into her palms.

"I am not leaving my new husband, Dad, because Spencer and I are going to control the entire Apex empire together," Penelope screamed stubbornly.

She wiped the heavy, melting mascara away from her eyes and walked confidently toward the iron gate to face me.

"You might have the fancy corporate title, Laura, but I am giving Spencer the one thing you are physically incapable of providing," Penelope taunted cruelly.

She proudly rubbed her flat stomach, deliberately trying to inflict maximum emotional pain.

"I am already four months pregnant with his beautiful son, and the court will ensure his child gets half of your entire company," Penelope bragged maliciously.

I stared blankly at her stomach, my mind rapidly calculating the impossible timeline of her supposed pregnancy.

Spencer had barely known Penelope for three months, meaning this entire affair had been meticulously planned long before my current business trip.

"You are incredibly naive if you truly believe Spencer actually cares about your unborn baby," I told Penelope with chilling calmness.

"He will ruthlessly use you for your father's wealth and brutally discard you the moment you are no longer financially useful," I warned the young girl.

Penelope simply laughed in my face, completely blinded by her arrogant delusion.

She reached deep into the expensive designer bag hanging from her shoulder and pulled out a crushed manila folder.

"Spencer loves me so much that he actively made sure you would never be able to trap him with a child of your own," Penelope sneered maliciously.

She shoved the crushed folder aggressively through the heavy iron bars, letting it fall onto the hot concrete right at my feet.

Mister Miller quickly bent down, retrieved the dirty folder, and cautiously handed it over to me.

I slowly opened the cover, my heart aggressively pounding against my ribs as I read the bright blue hospital letterhead.

They were highly confidential medical records from the exact same hospital where I had suffered my tragic miscarriage eight long years ago.

The detailed documents clearly proved that my devastating fall down the stairs had absolutely nothing to do with my permanent infertility.

Instead, the records showed a massive, undocumented cash payment made directly by Spencer to a corrupt surgeon.

While I was completely unconscious on the operating table, my own husband had secretly paid the doctor to aggressively alter my reproductive organs, permanently ensuring I could never conceive a child again.
