Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal

The photograph violently glowing on my phone screen was a clear, professional surveillance shot dated exactly nine years ago.

It showed Spencer sitting comfortably in a dark, seedy Miami bar, deeply engaged in a serious conversation with a terrifyingly familiar man.

It was Arturo Delgado, the notoriously violent cartel boss that Spencer claimed he had just recently borrowed fifty million dollars from.

I rapidly scrolled down to read the detailed, shocking report the elite investigator had attached beneath the horrifying picture.

Spencer had never been involved in a tragic highway accident eight years ago, and his severe bodily injuries were not from a random crash.

He had actually been violently tortured and beaten by the Delgado cartel because he owed them millions of dollars in illegal gambling debts.

Spencer had meticulously staged the entire tragic hospital scenario just to ruthlessly manipulate me into selling my late parents' apartment to pay off his criminal associates.

He effectively used my profound love and blind loyalty to save his own miserable life from the dangerous mob.

"He planned this entire horrific nightmare from the very beginning," I whispered, my voice echoing hollowly in the quiet hotel room.

Mister Miller aggressively snatched the phone from my hand, his eyes widening in pure shock as he read the classified investigator's report.

"Laura, if Spencer has been deeply involved with the Delgado cartel for over nine years, then Penelope's entire wedding is just a massive financial trap," Miller deduced rapidly.

"He does not actually love Chloe or Penelope, he is just using both of them to legally steal Apex Holdings so he can finally pay off his supreme cartel boss," I realized with sickening clarity.

Chloe had the high-level digital access to steal my corporate assets, while Penelope's billionaire father provided the necessary legal protection to legitimize the massive fraud.

Spencer was aggressively playing all three of us against each other in a desperate, pathetic attempt to save his own life.

"We need to immediately freeze every single Apex bank account before Chloe can wire the fifty million dollars to the cartel," Miller urgently advised.

I quickly opened my laptop, utilizing my supreme master administrative codes to initiate a total, immediate lockdown on all global Apex financial assets.

Within mere seconds, every corporate credit card, every international wire transfer, and every executive expense account was permanently frozen solid.

I confidently sat back in my chair, finally feeling like the powerful, ruthless Chairwoman I was meant to be.

"Now we just sit back, relax, and patiently wait for the rats to completely turn on each other when the money stops flowing," I told Miller with a cold, predatory smile.

Early the very next morning, my secure corporate email loudly chimed with an aggressively flagged urgent notification.

Chloe and Spencer had officially called an emergency, mandatory Apex Board of Directors meeting for noon today.

They explicitly planned to use the forged fifty-million-dollar cartel loan to officially declare me criminally negligent and permanently vote me out of my own company.

"They really think they can just stroll into my building and publicly steal my empire," I laughed softly, feeling absolutely zero fear.

I stood up and walked directly over to the hotel closet, pulling out a sharp, meticulously tailored blood-red designer suit.

"Prepare the corporate helicopter, Miller, because we are going to make a spectacular entrance," I confidently ordered my lawyer.

We landed directly on the reinforced roof of the towering Apex skyscraper exactly ten minutes before the board meeting was scheduled to begin.

I elegantly stepped out of the helicopter, the powerful wind dramatically whipping my hair around my face.

I confidently walked toward the private executive elevator, fully prepared to destroy Spencer and Chloe in front of the entire board.

The heavy metal doors of the elevator silently slid open, but the small cabin was not empty.

Arthur Sterling was standing completely alone inside the elevator, sweating profusely and nervously holding a loaded, silver revolver.

He aggressively raised the shaking gun and pointed the barrel directly at the absolute center of my chest.
