Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Pills

The heavy medical folder slipped right out of my trembling hands and crashed onto the hot concrete sidewalk.
A wave of intense, physical nausea violently washed over me as the horrifying reality of Spencer's ultimate betrayal finally set in.
He had not just cheated on me with a younger woman, he had systematically destroyed my very body to ensure his complete control over my life.
For eight agonizing years, I had quietly blamed myself for running too fast down those hospital stairs.
I had spent countless nights sobbing alone in the dark, mourning a precious baby that my own husband had intentionally helped destroy.
I slowly looked up from the fallen papers, letting a cold, terrifying, and calculated rage completely replace all of my sorrow.
"You are an absolute monster, Spencer," I whispered, my voice shaking with an anger I had never felt before.
Spencer nervously adjusted his silk tie, suddenly looking very uncomfortable as he realized he had finally pushed me too far.
"It was just a necessary business decision, Laura, because I needed you highly focused on working, not distracted by crying babies," Spencer justified with sickening logic.
Evelyn confidently stepped forward, proudly standing right beside her sociopathic son.
"He did what a real man has to do to secure his family's financial future," Evelyn loudly defended him without an ounce of shame.
"Now, stop being a dramatic nuisance and take your cheap suitcase back to whatever motel you belong in," Evelyn commanded arrogantly.
I slowly turned to Mister Miller, who was staring at the medical records in absolute, disgusted horror.
"Call the police immediately, Miller, and tell them I want these aggressive trespassers forcibly removed from my land by any means necessary," I coldly ordered.
"With extreme pleasure, Missus Vanguard," Miller replied eagerly as he dialed the emergency number.
Evelyn dramatically gasped, clearly faking a look of sheer, panicked terror for the remaining wedding guests.
She immediately pulled out her own phone and began frantically calling the local police precinct herself.
"Help me, please help me, there is a violent, deranged woman outside my mansion threatening to murder my entire family!" Evelyn screamed into her phone, sobbing fake tears.
Less than five minutes later, three heavily marked Miami police cruisers screeched to a halt right in front of the estate with their sirens blaring loudly.
Several armed police officers quickly jumped out of their vehicles, aggressively resting their hands on their holstered weapons.
Evelyn dramatically threw the iron gate open and went running straight toward the police officers, sobbing uncontrollably.
"That crazy woman is aggressively trying to break into my beautiful home and ruin my son's peaceful wedding!" Evelyn cried, pointing a shaking finger directly at my face.
The lead police officer, a tall man with a thick mustache, cautiously approached me with a stern, unforgiving expression.
"Ma'am, I am going to need to see your official identification right now," the officer demanded in a harsh tone.
I calmly reached into my designer purse, fully expecting to watch Spencer and his wicked mother get arrested for fraud.
I confidently handed the officer my driver's license, which clearly proved my legal residence at this exact address.
The officer looked at my identification card, then pulled out a folded legal document from his uniform pocket and reviewed it carefully.
Instead of walking past me to arrest Spencer, the officer suddenly pulled out a pair of heavy metal handcuffs.
He aggressively grabbed my wrists, twisting my arms firmly behind my back.
"Laura Vanguard, you are officially under arrest for aggressive criminal trespassing and violent harassment," the officer announced loudly for everyone to hear.
"What are you doing, I am the legal owner of this entire property!" I shouted in sheer disbelief as the cold metal bit into my wrists.
May you like
The officer shook his head and shoved the folded legal document right up to my face so I could read it.
"According to the city registry, the official deed to this mansion was legally transferred entirely into Evelyn's name exactly forty-eight hours ago," the officer stated grimly.
