Chapter 9 - The Pursuit

I stared at the gaping hole in the wall where my heavy steel safe had been anchored just ten minutes ago.

Jessica had used the chaos of the basement firefight to escape, stealing my life savings and my emergency bearer bonds.

I ran out the shattered front door and saw the taillights of my own vintage sports car speeding frantically down the gravel driveway.

I immediately sprinted to my tactical truck, threw it into gear, and slammed my foot aggressively onto the accelerator.

The massive tires tore up the manicured lawn as I bypassed the driveway completely, cutting directly through the dense forest to intercept them.

My truck crashed violently through thick brush and small saplings, relying on the heavy steel brush guard to clear a destructive path.

I merged onto the main asphalt highway just in time to see Jessica swerving erratically through the dark, winding mountain roads.

I flipped a switch on my dashboard, activating the hidden police pursuit lights and the deafening siren installed in the grill of my truck.

Jessica panicked at the sound of the siren and pushed the sports car far past its safe handling limits on the sharp curves.

I kept the pressure intense, riding her bumper aggressively to force her to make a critical, high-speed mistake.

Ryan suddenly leaned out of the passenger window, holding Jessica's stolen handgun, and started firing blindly back at my reinforced windshield.

The bullets sparked harmlessly off my ballistic glass, but his reckless actions forced me to implement a much more aggressive stopping maneuver.

I accelerated hard, slamming the heavy steel bumper of my truck directly into the rear quarter panel of the sports car.

The impact sent the sports car spinning violently out of control, tires screaming as it crashed heavily into a deep muddy ditch.

I drew my weapon, kicked my door open, and approached the smoking wreckage with absolute, uncompromising authority.

Ryan was sobbing loudly with his hands raised in surrender, begging for mercy while complaining about a broken nose.

Jessica was trapped behind the deployed airbag, furiously trying to pry the heavy steel safe open with a bloody tire iron.

I shattered her side window with the butt of my gun, dragged her roughly out of the vehicle, and threw her face-down onto the wet asphalt.
