Chapter 6 - The Sister's Betrayal

I slowly lowered my submachine gun to the floor, absolutely shocked by the sheer audacity of my own sister.

Jessica kept the handgun firmly pressed against my skull, her hands surprisingly steady for someone who had just survived a flashbang.

She ordered Ryan's terrified relatives to immediately run out the back door and scatter into the woods.

Once the room was clear of witnesses, Jessica stepped back and kept the weapon leveled perfectly at my chest.

Ryan scrambled to his feet, wiping tears from his face, and moved to stand safely behind his wife.

I asked Jessica exactly what she thought she was doing, trying to keep my voice perfectly calm to de-escalate the situation.

Jessica let out a bitter, resentful laugh, admitting that she was the one who originally tipped off the dark web syndicate.

She had found my classified security badge months ago and realized my boring job was actually a highly lucrative intelligence position.

She had intentionally forged the deed and brought Ryan's loud family here strictly as a chaotic distraction to cover her tracks.

Jessica planned to sell my classified military servers for ten million dollars to pay off a massive, dangerous gambling debt she had kept hidden.

She sneered at me, complaining that I always got to be the successful, independent hero while she was stuck in a miserable, boring life.

I stared at her, feeling absolutely no familial love left in my heart, only the cold detachment of a soldier analyzing an enemy combatant.

I warned her that the federal strike team was only minutes away, and if she surrendered now, I could protect her from treason charges.

Jessica shook her head defiantly, stating that she already had a buyer waiting on a speedboat at the edge of my private dock.

She pulled a remote detonator from her pocket, revealing that she had wired my own kitchen with stolen commercial explosives.

Jessica smiled ruthlessly and pressed the red button, intending to bury me alive under the burning rubble of my own home.

Nothing happened.

I smiled back at her, holding up a small black jamming device that I had discreetly activated the moment I walked downstairs.
