Chapter 8 - The Falling Glass

Thousands of razor-sharp crystal shards rained down upon the grand foyer like a deadly hailstorm.
Uncle Robert screamed as a massive piece of glass sliced deeply across his shoulder.
He dropped the silver detonator, and it bounced violently across the polished hardwood floor.
I dove forward, sliding on my knees to grab the device before he could recover it.
I secured the detonator in my pocket and drew my combat knife in one fluid motion.
I sprinted into the dining room and swiftly cut the heavy ropes binding my sister to the oak chair.
"Elias, I am so incredibly sorry," Sarah sobbed, falling weakly into my arms.
"We do not have time for apologies right now, Sarah, we need to run," I ordered.
I dragged her toward the kitchen exit, knowing Robert's private security team would be swarming the house any second.
Gunfire erupted from the front hallway as three heavily armed men stormed into the mansion.
I pushed Sarah behind the massive marble kitchen island and overturned a heavy dining table for cover.
Wood splintered violently around us as bullets tore through the expensive antique furniture.
I drew my sidearm and returned fire with precise, calculated shots.
Two of the attackers dropped instantly, clutching their wounded legs and screaming in pain.
The third man hesitated, giving me exactly the opening I needed.
I lunged over the barricade, disarmed the final guard, and knocked him unconscious with the heavy grip of my pistol.
The kitchen was finally quiet, save for the sound of gasoline dripping from an overturned can.
"Get up, Sarah, we are leaving through the servants' quarters," I commanded.
We ran down the narrow back hallway and burst through the heavy wooden door into the cold night air.
We sprinted across the dark lawn, hiding behind the ancient oak trees my grandfather had planted.
Uncle Robert suddenly stumbled out onto the back porch, holding a flare gun high above his head.
"If I cannot have the land, nobody will!" Robert roared into the darkness.
May you like
He aimed the flare gun directly at the gasoline-soaked wooden porch.
A single gunshot echoed from the edge of the woods, completely shattering Robert's flare gun into a million pieces.
