Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Glass

Noah’s hands shook violently as he carried the silver tray down the long, luxurious hallway.

The small glass of iced tea rattled against the metal, threatening to spill its deadly contents.

Tears blurred the young boy's vision, but the terrifying image of his little sister kept him walking forward.

He entered the grand study, where Adrian was reviewing corporate documents at his massive desk.

Adrian looked up, offering a rare, gentle smile to the boy he had grown to care about.

He thanked Noah and reached out to take the chilled glass of tea from the silver tray.

Noah’s heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird desperately trying to escape.

He wanted to scream, to confess everything, but fear paralyzed his vocal cords.

Just as the glass touched Adrian’s lips, the heavy oak doors burst open with a joyful shout.

Lily skipped into the room, holding a colorful drawing she had made of the forbidden garden.

She was thirsty from playing outside and immediately reached for the glass in Adrian’s hand.

Adrian laughed softly and tilted the glass toward her, happy to share his drink with his daughter.

Noah let out a blood-curdling scream that echoed off the high ceiling of the study.

He lunged across the mahogany desk, violently swatting the glass out of Adrian’s hand.

The crystal shattered against the stone fireplace, splashing the poisoned liquid across the expensive rug.

The liquid hissed slightly, leaving a faint, burning stain on the delicate fabric.

Lily jumped back in shock, bursting into tears at the sudden, violent outburst.

Adrian immediately drew his hidden pistol from his desk drawer, aiming it toward the hallway.

He quickly realized there was no immediate threat, and his piercing gaze locked onto the weeping boy.

Noah collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably and begging for forgiveness.

Adrian ordered Emma to take Lily into the next room and lock the heavy doors.

Once they were alone, Adrian gently lifted Noah from the floor and demanded the absolute truth.

Noah confessed everything, explaining how Marcus had blackmailed him by threatening his innocent sister.

Adrian’s jaw clenched with a murderous fury that he had not felt since his days as a mob boss.

He promised Noah that his sister would be rescued by the end of the night.

Before Adrian could make a single phone call, the mansion’s emergency klaxons began to blare.

The heavy steel security shutters slammed down over all the windows, plunging the room into darkness.

Marcus had manually triggered the lockdown protocol, trapping them inside like rats in a cage.
