Chapter 14 - The Mother of Lies

The sheer shock of seeing his dead wife standing perfectly alive paralyzed Adrian for a crucial, fatal second.

Caroline looked absolutely stunning, untouched by the eight years of grief and agony that had nearly destroyed Adrian’s soul.

She casually stepped closer, her golden pistol aimed directly at Emma, who was shielding the crying children with her own body.

Adrian raised his rifle, his hands shaking as he stared at the woman he had loved more than life itself.

He demanded to know how she could be so heartless, how she could abandon her own child to the ruthless cartel assassins in that hospital.

Caroline laughed, a sharp, bitter sound that echoed over the roaring ocean waves crashing against the cliffs below.

She confessed that the cartel assassins were actually her own hired men, paid to eliminate Adrian so she could inherit the empire cleanly.

When the ambush failed and she was rushed to the hospital, she realized Adrian would eventually uncover her ultimate betrayal.

Leaving the premature baby behind was simply a calculated tactical decision to ensure her own flawless escape into the shadows.

Emma listened to the confession with absolute disgust, her protective maternal instincts turning into a raging, burning hatred.

She spat at Caroline’s feet, calling her a monster who didn’t deserve to breathe the same air as the beautiful little girl.

Caroline’s eyes flashed with sudden, violent anger, and she ruthlessly fired a shot that grazed Emma’s shoulder, sending the former nurse to the ground.

Lily screamed, desperately reaching out for Emma, but a pair of massive mercenaries grabbed the little girl by her arms.

Noah bravely tried to fight them off, biting and kicking with all his might, but a mercenary struck the boy with the butt of a rifle.

Noah collapsed onto the wet asphalt, unconscious and bleeding, leaving Lily completely defenseless against her biological mother.

Adrian roared in fury, raising his weapon to fire at Caroline, but a sniper bullet from the hovering helicopter shattered his rifle to pieces.

The kinetic impact threw Adrian backward against the concrete barrier, leaving him entirely unarmed and bleeding heavily.

Caroline walked over to Lily, who was sobbing and begging for her real mother, Emma, to wake up and save her.

Caroline coldly grabbed the crying child by the wrist, dragging her toward the waiting extraction helicopter without a single ounce of pity.

She looked back at Adrian one last time, promising that once the trust fund was drained, she would send the girl’s body back in a box.
