Chapter 4 - The Great Escape

The police officers approached my bed with their hands resting on their duty belts.
They informed me that my ex-husband had reported me as a severe danger to myself and others.
They were ordered to transfer me immediately to a locked psychiatric facility across the state.
I looked at Julian, silently pleading for the mysterious executive to do something.
Julian did not hesitate for a single second.
He casually pulled a massive stack of cash from his coat pocket and tossed it onto the empty hospital bed.
He yelled that there was a loaded weapon under the mattress, creating an instant wave of absolute chaos.
The officers instinctively drew their weapons and dove for cover, screaming for backup on their radios.
Julian grabbed my arm and pulled me violently through the connecting bathroom door.
We sprinted down a narrow service hallway usually reserved for medical waste disposal.
The pain in my surgical incision was blinding, but the thought of losing my babies pushed me forward.
We burst through the emergency exit doors and into the pouring rain of the hospital parking lot.
A sleek black bulletproof SUV was idling aggressively by the curb.
Julian shoved me into the passenger seat and slammed his foot on the gas pedal.
Tires screeched loudly as we merged dangerously into the heavy afternoon city traffic.
I gripped the dashboard, watching the digital clock on the dashboard tick down mercilessly.
We had exactly fourteen minutes left to reach the federal notary at the downtown bank.
Julian swerved between lanes, breaking every traffic law in the city to get me there on time.
The massive glass tower of the bank finally came into view through the heavy rain.
Julian slammed on the brakes, and I threw the door open before the car even stopped moving.
I ran through the revolving doors, completely soaked in rain and wearing only a hospital gown.
I saw the federal notary sitting at his desk in the main lobby, waiting for me.
May you like
But my heart completely stopped when I saw who was standing right in front of his desk.
Grant was holding a lighter, and the original master copy of my grandfather's trust was already engulfed in bright orange flames.
