Chapter 8 - The Neighbor's Lens

Fire trucks wailed in the distance, responding to the massive column of black smoke filling the sky.

Caleb sat on the curb across the street, watching his entire life burn to the ground.

He felt utterly defeated, knowing his mother might actually escape the attempted murder charges.

Without the indoor footage, it was simply Hannah's word against a wealthy, connected woman.

Suddenly, his elderly neighbor, Mrs. Gable, walked out onto her front porch wearing a bathrobe.

She looked at the burning house and then walked directly over to Caleb.

"I saw that horrible man run out of your backyard," Mrs. Gable said quietly.

"Did you see my mother go inside earlier today?" Caleb asked desperately.

"I didn't just see her, Caleb," the old woman smiled, pointing up at the corner of her own roof.

"My son installed a high-definition perimeter camera last week, and it points directly at your front windows."

Caleb felt a massive surge of hope electrify his exhausted body.

He followed Mrs. Gable inside her home and watched as she pulled up the digital video feed.

The camera perfectly captured Lorraine arriving at the townhouse hours before Caleb came home.

It showed her looking through the front window at Hannah collapsed on the floor.

It recorded Lorraine calmly unlocking the door, stepping inside, and walking out twenty minutes later with a sinister smile.

The footage even caught Lorraine handing the mysterious doctor's jacket to the corrupt paramedics.

It was absolute, undeniable proof of her cold-blooded, calculated malice.
