Chapter 6 - The Broken Truth

Caleb rushed into the dimly lit recovery room, clutching his sleeping son tightly against his chest.

Hannah was sitting up in the hospital bed, her face completely pale and drenched in cold sweat.

When she saw Caleb holding their baby, she let out a gut-wrenching sob of pure relief.

Caleb placed the infant gently into her shaking arms and kissed her forehead repeatedly.

"I am so sorry I ever doubted you," Caleb whispered, his voice breaking with heavy emotion.

Hannah looked up at him with eyes full of lingering terror and deep sorrow.

"Your mother didn't just ignore my phone calls, Caleb," Hannah said quietly.

"She came over to the house before she called the paramedics."

Caleb felt his blood run entirely cold at this new revelation.

"She stood over me while I was bleeding on the floor," Hannah continued, tears falling onto the baby's blanket.

"She took my phone out of my hand and purposefully kicked it under the bed so I could not call for help."

"She told me that if I died, she would finally have you all to herself again."

A dark, unprecedented rage ignited deep within Caleb's soul.

His mother had actively attempted to murder his wife in cold blood.

Kidnapping was no longer the most serious crime on Lorraine's record.

"I need to go back to the house to get the security footage," Caleb stated firmly.
