Chapter 5 - The Rat Trap

Marcus stared at his encrypted phone in absolute horror.
His entire secure network had been completely compromised.
The bank manager laughed cruelly through the speaker.
He revealed that they already had the boy's mother held captive in a shipping yard.
He promised to spare her life only if they surrendered the blue drive.
The call violently disconnected and left them in total silence.
Sarah realized that her brother had been completely played.
The Syndicate knew about his betrayal the entire time.
Suddenly the subway tunnel filled with the sound of approaching drones.
Small mechanical spiders with glowing red eyes crawled down the brick walls.
Marcus shouted for them to run as the drones began to emit a high-pitched whine.
The machines were packed with highly concentrated explosive charges.
They sprinted desperately down the dark tracks as the first drone detonated.
The massive explosion completely collapsed the tunnel directly behind them.
Thick dust and concrete debris rained down on their heads.
They climbed blindly up a rusted maintenance ladder toward the surface.
They burst out of a manhole cover into an abandoned train yard.
The fresh air offered them a brief moment of desperate relief.
A massive black helicopter suddenly roared over the train cars.
A blinding spotlight completely illuminated their position in the dirt.
A heavy machine gun spun up with a terrifying mechanical click.
They were completely pinned down with absolutely nowhere left to hide.
The helicopter slowly descended until it hovered just above the ground.
The side door violently slid open to reveal the pilot.
It was not the corrupt bank manager or a cartel mercenary.
May you like
It was the chief of police wearing a dark tactical uniform.
He aimed a massive sniper rifle directly at Marcus's head.
