Chapter 2 - The Shattered Gold
Sarah froze completely as the cold barrel of the gun pointed at her heart.
The screaming in the bank lobby instantly died down into a suffocating silence.
The manager cocked the weapon with a sharp metallic click.
He demanded that Sarah slide the heavy duffel bag across the counter.
Sarah pushed the bag slowly while keeping her hands completely visible.
The boy suddenly reached out and grabbed the strap of the bag.
The manager warned the boy to step back immediately.
The boy ignored the threat and violently yanked the bag toward himself.
The sudden force caused the zipper to tear completely open.
A single heavy gold bar tumbled out of the bag.
It hit the hard marble floor with a terrifying crash.
The solid gold did not dent or scratch like normal metal.
Instead the bar violently shattered into a dozen pieces.
Sarah gasped in pure shock as the fake outer shell broke apart.
Hidden entirely inside the fake gold bar was a glowing blue hard drive.
The manager lowered his gun slightly in absolute confusion.
He had been entirely prepared to steal millions of dollars in solid gold.
He had no idea what the blue drive actually contained.
Sarah realized this was her only chance to survive.
She grabbed the heavy stapler from her desk and hurled it directly at the manager's face.
The heavy object struck him squarely on the nose.
The manager dropped his gun and stumbled backward in agony.
Sarah vaulted over the counter and grabbed the boy by his arm.
She snatched the glowing blue drive from the floor.
They sprinted frantically toward the basement stairwell.
