Chapter 1 - The Heavy Silence

The teller stared at the worn paper.

Her hands trembled violently under the harsh fluorescent lights of the bank.

She instantly recognized the black wax seal stamped at the very bottom of the page.

It was the unmistakable emblem of the Blackwood Syndicate.

The young boy simply stood there with cold and unblinking eyes.

The heavy gold bars reflected blinding light across the polished marble counter.

Sarah the teller slowly reached beneath her desk.

She completely ignored the standard police alarm and pressed the hidden red button instead.

Heavy steel shutters immediately slammed down over the bank windows.

The casual morning customers began to scream in absolute panic.

The main lobby doors locked with a deafening electronic thud.

The boy did not even flinch as the chaos erupted around him.

He just calmly zipped the heavy duffel bag back up.

The bank manager suddenly stepped out from his corner office.

He had a terrifyingly calm smile plastered across his face.

The manager slowly walked toward the teller station while the customers cowered on the floor.

Sarah let out a massive sigh of relief at the sight of her boss.

She held the stamped note up for him to read.

The manager gently took the note from her shaking hands.

He looked at the boy and then back at the gold.

Then he reached inside his tailored suit jacket.

Sarah expected him to pull out the master key for the vault.

Instead the manager pulled out a heavy black pistol.

He aimed the deadly weapon directly at Sarah's chest.
