Chapter 5 - The River of Deceit

Vivian's cruel laughter echoed loudly against the damp concrete walls of the underground cavern.

She adjusted her grip on the heavy sniper rifle, completely relishing her moment of absolute victory.

"Kill the maid and the boy, but shoot Christopher in the leg," she commanded her hidden mercenaries.

Dozens of red laser sights instantly painted the sleek black speedboat where they were desperately hiding.

Christopher knew he had less than a second to make a highly impossible, life-or-death decision.

He grabbed a red emergency flare gun from the boat's survival kit and fired it directly at the overhead fuel lines.

The bright red flare struck the heavy pipes, instantly igniting a massive, blinding wall of intense flames.

The snipers wildly lost their line of sight as thick, black smoke rapidly filled the entire cavern.

Christopher aggressively slammed the boat's throttle completely forward.

The powerful engine roared to life, tearing the docking ropes from their iron cleats with violent force.

They shot out of the underground marina like a bullet, bursting into the bright, blinding sunlight of the open river.

Bullets skipped dangerously across the water behind them, shattering the fiberglass hull of their escaping vessel.

Leo huddled terrified on the floorboards while Emily bravely helped Christopher navigate the treacherous, winding river.

"We have to reach the downtown corporate tower before noon to legally stop this merger," Christopher yelled over the roaring wind.

He explained that Vivian's father was the mysterious CEO of the rival company acquiring his vast empire today.

If Christopher was presumed dead or missing, the hostile takeover would instantly become fully finalized and entirely legal.

They sped toward the towering skyline of the city, weaving recklessly through heavy commercial boat traffic.

Suddenly, a massive, heavily armored police helicopter descended aggressively from the clouds directly in front of them.

A booming voice over a loudspeaker ordered them to immediately cut their engines and surrender.

Christopher squinted through the glaring sunlight and realized the terrifying, ultimate truth.

The helicopter did not have police markings, but proudly bore the corporate logo of Vivian's ruthless family.
