Chapter 6 - The Broken Trust

Norah slowly reached for the heavy metal flashlight tucked into the door panel.

"Matteo pays very well for runaway wives," the driver whispered with a wicked grin.

Before he could lunge at her, Norah swung the flashlight with all her remaining strength.

The heavy metal struck the driver squarely in the temple, knocking him unconscious against the steering wheel.

Norah scrambled out of the cab and sprinted across the dusty concrete floor of the warehouse.

She found a small utility office in the back and locked the heavy metal door.

She pulled out her burner phone and dialed the only number she had left to trust.

It was Elias, an old underworld fixer who had sworn a blood oath to protect her late father.

Elias answered on the first ring and promised to extract her within thirty minutes.

Norah sat on the cold floor in the dark, trembling as she waited for her savior.

True to his word, Elias arrived in a quiet sedan and quickly shot the lock off the office door.

He looked like a gentle grandfather, offering her a warm blanket and a bottle of expensive water.

Norah thanked him profusely and climbed into the passenger seat of his car.

She opened the water bottle and took a long, desperate sip to clear her dry throat.

Within ten seconds, the world outside the windshield began to spin violently.

Her muscles went completely numb, and her vision faded to a terrifying black.

Elias gently patted her shoulder as she collapsed against the window.

"I am so sorry, Norah, but five million dollars is simply too much money to ignore," Elias whispered.
