Chapter 2 - The Security Breach

Norah did not panic or beg for her life.
She had spent three years married to a monster, and she had learned how to negotiate with wolves.
She looked directly into the barrel of the loaded gun.
"I know about your gambling debts in Atlantic City, Arthur," Norah said evenly.
The security chief flinched, his hand trembling slightly on the grip of the pistol.
"Matteo will skin you alive if he finds out you owe half a million dollars to his rivals," Norah continued.
Arthur swallowed hard, the sweat pooling on his forehead.
Norah reached into her pocket and pulled out a secondary flash drive.
"There is one million dollars in an untraceable cryptocurrency wallet on this drive," she offered.
She tossed the small silver device onto the expensive Persian rug between them.
"Take the money, give me the keys to a ghost car, and tell Matteo you never saw me," she demanded.
Arthur lowered the weapon and slowly bent down to pick up the drive.
He pulled a set of unmarked car keys from his jacket and slid them across the desk.
Norah grabbed the keys and hurried out the back door into the freezing rain.
She found the black sedan waiting in the hidden service alley.
She started the engine and drove quickly out of the massive estate.
She felt a massive wave of relief as the city lights blurred in the rearview mirror.

Suddenly, the car engine sputtered and completely died as she crossed over a set of rural train tracks.
A deafening train whistle blew in the distance, and the crossing lights began to flash bright red.
