Chapter 8 - Sins of the Father

My mother looked incredibly weak, her pale skin glowing terribly under the harsh floodlights.
I screamed her name and tried to run forward, but Gabriel aggressively pulled me back behind the shipping container.
Celeste laughed maniacally over the sound of the ongoing gunfire.
She shouted that Gabriel had to choose between his beloved mentor and the mother of his new favorite maid.
Gabriel’s eyes were wild with desperation as he quickly assessed the impossible battlefield.
He looked at me and silently promised that he would save everyone tonight.
He suddenly broke from cover and sprinted directly into the chaotic crossfire.
He moved with terrifying precision, taking down three of Silas’s mercenaries in a matter of seconds.
Silas abandoned the old man and fired wildly at Gabriel with his heavy assault rifle.
Gabriel slid across the wet pavement and shot Silas cleanly in the kneecap.
His brother collapsed to the ground with a pathetic, agonizing scream.
Seeing her brother fall, Celeste completely panicked and pressed her gun harder against my mother.
She threatened to blow my mother's head off if Gabriel took another step forward.
I could not hide in the shadows and let my mother die for me anymore.
I stepped out into the open, holding my gun with both violently shaking hands.
I aimed directly at Celeste and told her to let the innocent woman go immediately.
Celeste sneered at me, calling me a pathetic, weak civilian who lacked the courage to pull the trigger.
She confidently raised her weapon and aimed it squarely at my chest.
Before she could even pull her trigger, a massive gunshot echoed from the dark pier.
Celeste gasped in pure shock as a bright red stain rapidly bloomed across her white blouse.
She dropped her weapon and fell heavily to the wet concrete floor.
I turned in absolute shock to see who had fired the fatal shot.
Don Carmine, the frail old mentor, was holding a smoking revolver with incredibly steady hands.

He looked at Gabriel and whispered that the treacherous bloodline had to be cleansed.
Suddenly, Silas used the distraction to grab a hidden grenade from his tactical belt.
