Chapter 6 - The Underworld War

The cell phone slipped from my numb fingers and crashed onto the cheap motel floor.

I collapsed to my knees, sobbing uncontrollably as the sheer terror consumed my mind.

My mother was incredibly sick, frail, and now in the hands of absolute monsters.

Gabriel rushed to my side and pulled me firmly against his strong chest.

He swore a bloody oath that he would burn the entire city down to get her back safely.

He left me with Lily and stepped into the bathroom to make a series of encrypted phone calls.

When he emerged, his eyes burned with the ruthless fire of a true mafia king.

He had successfully rallied his hidden loyalists and discovered where Silas was holding my mother.

They had taken her to an abandoned shipping yard located on the freezing edge of Brooklyn.

Gabriel handed me a loaded pistol and showed me exactly how to release the safety.

He firmly ordered me to stay locked in the motel room with Lily until he returned.

I shook my head stubbornly and refused to let him fight this battle alone.

I argued that Silas wanted to kill him, and walking into that yard alone was absolute suicide.

I promised that I would keep Lily perfectly safe, but I was going to help him rescue my mother.

Gabriel saw the unbreakable determination in my eyes and finally agreed to let me drive the getaway vehicle.

We stole a heavy maintenance truck from the alley and drove toward the desolate Brooklyn docks.

The rain had stopped, leaving a thick, eerie fog rolling over the dark harbor.

Gabriel instructed me to hide behind a massive stack of rusted shipping containers with Lily.

He walked out into the open clearing, demanding that Silas show his cowardly face.

Floodlights suddenly snapped on, blinding us with their intense, artificial glare.

Silas stepped out from the shadows, flanked by dozens of heavily armed mercenaries.

He laughed cruelly and announced that Gabriel had walked right into a perfect trap.

Silas signaled to his men, and two guards dragged a bound hostage into the bright light.

I gasped in pure horror, realizing the hostage was not my mother at all.
