Chapter 7 - The Morgue

The cold, metallic smell of absolute death filled Marcus's nostrils as he slowly regained consciousness.
He opened his eyes and realized he was lying on a steel table inside a freezing hospital morgue.
He was not paralyzed, and he was certainly not dead.
He sat up quickly, pulling a thin plastic sheet off his freezing body.
Eleanor stepped out from the dark shadows of the room, tears of pure relief streaming down her beautiful face.
She explained that she had secretly swapped Dr. Vance's lethal syringe with a harmless saline solution back in the server room.
She had intentionally distracted the doctor by crying, allowing her incredibly quick son to make the switch.
Vance had believed Marcus was dead and had ordered his body dumped in his private clinic's morgue.
"They have Leo, Marcus," Eleanor sobbed, falling into his arms.
Arthur had taken the boy to his heavily fortified private estate outside the city as collateral.
Marcus felt a terrifying, primal rage ignite deep inside his chest.
He was no longer a helpless victim sitting in a titanium chair waiting for the world to end.
He grabbed a heavy steel scalpel from the medical tray and put on a discarded security uniform.
They stole a car from the clinic's parking lot and drove recklessly toward Arthur's massive mansion.
Marcus crashed the vehicle directly through the wrought-iron front gates, completely ignoring the blaring alarms.

He kicked the front doors of the mansion wide open, ready to burn the entire empire to the ground.
Standing in the grand foyer, completely unarmed and holding a glass of scotch, was Arthur Sterling.
