Chapter 4 - The Extraction

Three heavily armed mercenaries stormed into the tiny apartment, their weapons equipped with laser sights.

Marcus reacted purely on paternal instinct, shoving Eleanor and Leo behind the heavy refrigerator.

He grabbed a cast-iron skillet from the stove and hurled it directly at the first gunman's face.

The heavy metal struck the man flawlessly, knocking him unconscious before he could pull the trigger.

Eleanor grabbed a hidden pistol from under the sink and fired two warning shots toward the hallway.

The remaining mercenaries ducked for cover, giving Marcus enough time to pull his family toward the fire escape.

They scrambled out the window and climbed down the rusted metal stairs into the rainy alleyway.

Marcus's legs were growing stronger by the minute, the toxic paralyzing drugs finally flushing from his system.

"Arthur and the insurance company made a deal to take control of your tech patents," Eleanor explained as they ran.

Because Marcus was deemed legally disabled and mentally unfit, Arthur had total power of attorney over his billions.

They had faked Eleanor's death and kept Marcus drugged to ensure no one ever questioned the legal arrangement.

They stole a parked delivery van and sped out of the dangerous neighborhood, seeking temporary shelter.

Marcus knew they needed absolute proof to destroy Arthur and reclaim his stolen life.

Eleanor told him that the insurance conglomerate kept a secret digital ledger of all the illegal payouts in their downtown vault.

They parked near the towering glass skyscraper of the insurance company, preparing to break in.

Marcus looked at the front entrance and realized they had walked directly into a massive trap.

Standing in the lobby, surrounded by dozens of armed guards, was Dr. Vance, holding a very familiar detonator.
