Chapter 2 - The Repossession

Ethan laughed at a joke his mother made as they walked out of the upscale restaurant.

He felt incredibly proud of himself for putting me in my place at the hospital.

Diane patted his arm, telling him that I needed to learn how to be a traditional, subservient wife.

He pressed the unlock button on his key fob, but the black SUV did not chirp.

Instead, a tall man in a tailored suit was leaning casually against the hood of the vehicle.

Ethan puffed out his chest and marched aggressively toward the stranger.

"Get off my car before I call the cops," Ethan demanded loudly.

The man did not flinch, simply adjusting his dark sunglasses under the afternoon sun.

"This vehicle is registered to Morgan Enterprise Holdings," the man stated calmly.

Ethan scoffed and crossed his arms defensively.

"My wife bought this car, which means it belongs to me."

The man reached into his jacket and pulled out a stack of notarized ownership documents.

"Your wife, Claire Morgan, merely leased it from her family's corporate trust."

"And as of ten minutes ago, that lease has been officially terminated due to unauthorized usage."

Diane stepped forward, her face turning red with indignation.

"You can't just take our car, we have a baby at home!"

The man smiled a cold, terrifying smile.

"The baby is currently safe with his grandfather, General Thomas Morgan."

Ethan's face completely drained of color as the words hit him.

I had told him my father was a retired low-level government clerk named Tom.

He had absolutely no idea he had just stranded the daughter of a four-star military commander.

A heavy tow truck suddenly backed into the parking lot, its amber lights flashing brightly.

Two more men in suits stepped out from behind a nearby van, effectively boxing Ethan and his family in.

Ethan frantically pulled out his phone to call me, but the call went straight to a disconnected line tone.

The man in the suit handed Ethan a single piece of paper.

"You have precisely one hour to collect your personal belongings from the apartment."

Ethan snatched the paper, realizing it was a formal eviction notice.

But the real twist came when he flipped the paper over.

Stapled to the back was a heavily redacted FBI warrant with Ethan's name boldly printed on it.
