Chapter 7 - The Trap is Set

Norah’s hands shook violently as she typed the exact words Vincent dictated into the burner phone.

She sent a message confirming that Vincent had dismissed his personal guards for the night.

She falsely claimed that he was currently weak, unarmed, and sleeping heavily in his study.

The response from the rival family came through less than thirty seconds later.

The message simply read that the extraction team was moving in and the inside man would open the gates.

Vincent took the phone from her hands and crushed it completely under the heel of his shoe.

He pulled a heavy assault rifle from a hidden compartment securely built into his mahogany wardrobe.

He handed Norah a small, loaded handgun and told her to keep the safety off.

Vincent explained that they were going to use this opportunity to completely purge his household.

He quietly gathered the three men he trusted most in the entire world, leaving the rest of the guards completely unaware.

They positioned themselves in the pitch-black shadows of the grand foyer overlooking the main entrance.

Norah hid behind a massive marble pillar, her heart pounding furiously against her aching ribs.

The heavy grandfather clock in the hallway slowly chimed the arrival of midnight.

Suddenly, all the lights in the massive estate flickered and completely died, plunging the house into total darkness.

The heavy electronic locks on the front doors clicked open with a soft, terrifying mechanical whir.

A dozen men dressed in completely black tactical gear silently flooded into the grand entryway.

Vincent waited until the entire hit squad was perfectly positioned in the center of the kill zone.

He flipped on a blinding tactical flashlight attached to his rifle and yelled a brutal command.

Gunfire absolutely erupted from the shadows, tearing through the surprised assassins in a storm of bullets.

Norah covered her ears and screamed as the deafening noise rattled her very bones.

The firefight was incredibly brief, violent, and decisively won by Vincent’s loyal men.

Vincent walked carefully among the bodies, looking for the traitor who had disabled the security grid.

Suddenly, a cold metal barrel was pressed brutally hard against the back of Norah’s skull.

She slowly raised her hands as the estate’s head of security stepped out from behind her pillar.
