Chapter 14 - The Biological Tracker

Dr. Aris shook his head sadly, claiming that breaking into a Vanguard black site was absolute suicide.
He explained that the facility was heavily buried beneath a hollowed-out mountain on the northern coast.
They had elite soldiers, automated defense turrets, and biometric locks that would vaporize intruders.
Norah refused to accept defeat, pacing rapidly across the cold concrete floor of the bunker.
She told the doctor that Vincent’s mafia empire still had hundreds of heavily armed, loyal men waiting for orders.
If Enzo was still alive in the medical wing, he could rally the soldiers for a massive assault.
Dr. Aris sighed heavily and agreed to try, but he needed to check Norah for Vanguard tracking devices first.
He ordered her to sit on an examination table and pulled a handheld scanning device from a drawer.
He ran the scanner slowly over her arms, her chest, and finally the back of her neck.
The machine suddenly shrieked with a high-pitched, incredibly rapid beeping sound.
Dr. Aris’s face turned completely pale as he stared at the digital readout on the scanner.
He slowly explained that Vanguard had not placed a tracking device on her clothing or in her belongings.
They had injected a microscopic biological tracker directly into her bloodstream during her mandatory estate physical.
Norah realized with horrifying clarity that the traitorous security chief had orchestrated the medical exam weeks ago.
Vanguard had known exactly where she and Vincent were every single second of the day.
Dr. Aris grabbed a sterile scalpel and told her that he needed to extract the cluster from her neck immediately.
Norah gritted her teeth and gripped the edge of the metal table as the cold blade sliced into her flesh.
The pain was incredibly sharp, but she did not make a single sound as blood dripped down her spine.
Dr. Aris pulled a tiny, blinking metallic capsule from her neck and dropped it into a heavy lead box.
Before he could bandage her wound, a massive, deafening explosion rocked the underground bunker.

Vanguard operatives had not just taken Vincent; they had sent a secondary strike team to wipe out the catacombs.
The heavy titanium blast doors of the bunker began to violently buckle under the force of thermal breaching charges.
