Chapter 13 - The Subterranean World

Norah pounded her fists against the cold, unyielding steel door until her knuckles bled.

She screamed Vincent’s name into the darkness, but the heavy metal absorbed every single sound.

She was completely alone in a dark, freezing tunnel located hundreds of feet beneath the burning mansion.

The backup emergency lights flickered on, casting a dim red glow down the long concrete corridor.

Knowing she could not open the door, Norah turned and began to run blindly into the depths.

The tunnel slowly widened, leading her into a massive, cavernous underground bunker.

It looked like an abandoned Cold War military facility, heavily retrofitted with advanced medical technology.

Rows of empty hospital beds and sterile surgical tables filled the center of the massive room.

Suddenly, a cold, metallic click echoed loudly from the shadows near the back of the bunker.

An elderly man wearing a stained white lab coat stepped into the dim red light.

He was holding a heavily modified, high-powered revolver pointed directly at Norah’s chest.

He demanded to know exactly how a normal human woman had bypassed the biometric scanners.

Norah raised her trembling hands, frantically explaining that Vincent had pushed her into the tunnel to save her life.

The old man lowered his weapon, his gray eyes widening in absolute shock.

He introduced himself as Dr. Aris, the original geneticist who had helped Vincent escape the government decades ago.

Dr. Aris rushed over to a massive bank of computer monitors and frantically typed on the keyboard.

The screens illuminated, showing live security footage of the ruined master study above them.

Vincent was heavily chained, unconscious, and being dragged onto a black military helicopter by the operatives.

Norah covered her mouth, a sharp sob tearing through her throat as she watched the aircraft fly away.

Dr. Aris turned to her with a grim, deeply terrified expression etched onto his wrinkled face.

He whispered that the shadow agency, known as the Vanguard, would slowly drain Vincent of every drop of his blood.

They needed his mutated DNA to synthesize a serum that would create an army of unstoppable super-soldiers.

Norah looked at the doctor with fierce, unyielding determination replacing her fear.

She firmly stated that they were going to get him back, no matter the cost.
