Chapter 9 - The Mother-in-Law's Fall
Agnes smiled wickedly as her armed men completely surrounded the computer terminal.
She was wearing a thick fur coat, looking entirely out of place in the rusting military bunker.
She callously ordered her men to destroy the laptop immediately before the upload finished.
Sarah drew her weapon fast, but three red laser sights instantly settled directly on her chest.
I raised my hands slowly and stepped protectively in front of the computer terminal.
I told Agnes that killing us would not stop the automated upload from reaching the FBI.
Agnes laughed cruelly and pulled a silver revolver from her coat pocket.
She pointed the barrel directly at my face and told me I was always a pathetic liar.
She stepped closer to the desk to inspect the screen and confirm the upload status for herself.
That was the exact arrogant mistake I had been praying she would make.
I grabbed the steaming hot thermos of coffee sitting on the desk and threw the scalding liquid directly into her eyes.
Agnes shrieked in absolute agony and dropped the revolver onto the concrete floor.
Sarah immediately opened fire on the mercenaries, taking two of them down before diving behind a concrete pillar for cover.
I snatched Agnes’s fallen revolver from the floor and grabbed her roughly by the collar of her expensive coat.
I dragged the screaming woman in front of me, using her as a human shield against her own hired men.
The remaining mercenaries hesitated, unwilling to accidentally shoot their wealthy boss.
The computer terminal pinged loudly, indicating the massive data transfer was one hundred percent complete.
The uncorrupted FBI director now possessed every single document needed to destroy her massive empire.
I whispered into Agnes’s ear that she was going to spend the rest of her miserable life in a concrete box.
I shoved her forcefully into the remaining mercenaries and sprinted out the back door with Sarah closely behind me.
We slid rapidly down the snowy embankment and reached our hidden vehicle just as federal helicopters appeared in the sky.
The uncorrupted FBI agents swarmed the mountain and arrested everyone inside the communications facility.
I watched the news stream on my phone as federal agents simultaneously raided David’s hospital room to arrest him.
