Chapter 6 - The Airstrip Explosion

I stared in sheer panic at the glowing red numbers on the explosive device.

Eight seconds left.

I turned around and sprinted away from the van as fast as my injured legs could possibly carry me.

I dove recklessly behind a stack of solid metal shipping crates just as the timer reached zero.

The massive explosion shattered the quiet night sky and sent a shockwave of intense heat over my body.

Flaming debris rained down heavily on the tarmac, setting the nearby dry grass on fire.

The panicked cartel men began firing their weapons blindly into the thick smoke.

I realized David had purposely set a trap to wipe out Hector and escape safely with the money.

I covered my ears as stray bullets ricocheted off the metal crates protecting me from the crossfire.

Through the thick black smoke, I saw the private jet accelerating rapidly down the runway.

Hector was screaming furiously at his men to shoot the plane's tires before it took off.

I knew in my heart that my daughters had to be trapped inside that accelerating jet.

I spotted an abandoned luggage tug vehicle sitting with the keys inside near the hangar.

I ran through the dangerous crossfire, jumped into the driver's seat, and slammed my foot on the gas pedal.

I drove the heavy vehicle directly onto the runway, heading straight for the accelerating plane.

The pilot saw me coming and tried to pull the aircraft up into the air far too early.

The landing gear violently clipped the top of my vehicle, tearing the roof completely off.

The jet lost its aerodynamic balance, skidded aggressively off the runway, and crashed nose-first into a muddy ditch.

I grabbed my pistol from the floorboard and ran toward the wrecked aircraft before it could catch fire.

I kicked the jammed emergency exit door open and climbed inside the smoke-filled cabin.

David was lying on the floor, bleeding heavily from a massive gash on his forehead.

I ignored him entirely and frantically searched the luxurious leather seats for my daughters.

I found Lily and Rose huddled together in the back row, crying loudly but completely unharmed.

I unbuckled them quickly and promised that Mommy was never letting them out of her sight again.

I guided them out of the plane and told them to run toward the safety of the dark trees.

I turned back to deal with my abusive husband once and for all.

David suddenly lunged forward from the floor, stabbing a jagged piece of airplane metal deep into my side.
