Chapter 4 - The Corrupt Precinct

I shielded my eyes from the blinding police spotlights shining in the alley.

I could not understand how David was standing there wearing a tailored suit instead of a prison uniform.

Officer Ramirez had promised me that he would be held in a cell without bail.

Sarah raised her hands slowly and whispered that David basically owned the local police chief.

The chief himself stepped out of the cruiser and pointed his service weapon directly at us.

He announced that Sarah and I were under arrest for the brutal murder of Marcus.

David had killed his own brother and framed us to get permanent custody of the girls.

Two heavily armed officers grabbed me roughly and slammed me against the side of the van.

I screamed and kicked, terrified for my daughters sleeping peacefully inside the vehicle.

David walked up to the van and peered greedily through the tinted windows.

He smiled at me and said he was going to take his daughters to a country where women knew their proper place.

The corrupt officers shoved me and Sarah into the back of a police cruiser and locked the heavy doors.

I watched in absolute horror as David drove away in the black van with my children.

I slammed my head against the wire mesh partition and sobbed uncontrollably into my hands.

Sarah remained eerily calm as the cruiser began moving toward the isolated county jail.

She leaned close to my ear and told me not to panic just yet.

She reached deep into her heavy boot and pulled out a small, jagged piece of sharp metal.

She easily picked the lock on her handcuffs and handed the makeshift tool to me.

“We are absolutely not going to jail today,” she whispered with a deadly serious look.

Sarah suddenly kicked the wire partition with enough force to shatter the cheap plastic hinges.

She reached through the narrow gap and wrapped the handcuff chain tightly around the driving officer's neck.

The cruiser swerved violently off the rural highway and plunged rapidly down a steep embankment.

The world spun wildly out of control as the car flipped over and glass shattered everywhere.

I woke up hanging upside down, bleeding heavily from a deep cut on my forehead.

I turned my head and realized Sarah was completely gone, but the officer was dead in the front seat.

A terrifying pair of bright headlights suddenly appeared at the very top of the embankment.
