Chapter 8 - The Child Assassin
Alexander slammed on the brakes, sending the heavy vehicle skidding to a violent halt on the dirt road.
He stared at the eight-year-old girl who was currently holding a deadly military weapon.
"What exactly are you doing, Maya?" he asked in a slow, careful voice.
Maya stared back at him with cold, dead eyes that completely lacked any childlike innocence.
"I was trained by Julian to survive in this world," she answered in a chillingly flat tone.
"Keep driving if you want to stop your wife, Alexander."
He realized he had been played from the very beginning, but he had absolutely no choice left.
He needed the child's help if he was going to survive the heavily guarded facility.
He shifted the vehicle back into gear and drove the rest of the way in suffocating silence.
They arrived at the hidden entrance of the Black Site, a massive steel bunker built into the side of a mountain.
The thick reinforced doors had been blown completely off their massive hinges.
Alexander drew his weapon and moved tactically into the dark, silent corridor.
Maya followed closely behind him, covering their blind spots with terrifying professional efficiency.
They reached the main laboratory floor and Alexander froze in absolute horror.
The bodies of twenty elite scientists were scattered across the sterile white floor.
However, there was not a single drop of blood or bullet wound anywhere to be seen.

They looked exactly like victims who had been exposed to the Genesis toxin.
