Chapter 5 - The Explosion
Alexander did not hesitate to investigate the terrifying message.
He dropped to his knees and ripped the heavy wooden floorboards away with his bare hands.
Hidden directly beneath the computer server was a massive block of military-grade C4 explosive.
The digital detonator was wired directly into the floor and showed only fifteen seconds remaining.
"Maya, run!" Alexander screamed at the top of his lungs.
He grabbed the little girl by the arm and sprinted toward the back of the warehouse.
A heavily reinforced steel panic room was built into the far wall for absolute emergencies.
He threw the heavy steel door open and shoved Maya inside without slowing down.
He dove into the tiny room right behind her and hit the emergency lockdown button.
The massive door slammed shut and sealed perfectly just as the timer reached zero.
The explosion ripped through the warehouse with an apocalyptic level of destructive force.
The shockwave slammed against the outside of the panic room, shaking the steel walls violently.
Deafening noise echoed through the tiny space as the entire building collapsed around them.
Alexander covered Maya with his body to protect her from the intense vibrations.
A few agonizing moments later, the horrific noise finally faded into the crackle of burning debris.
Alexander pushed the heavy steel door open and stepped out into a nightmare of smoke and fire.
The entire safe house had been reduced to a smoldering pile of twisted metal and ash.
He looked through the thick black smoke and saw three figures walking slowly toward him.
They were heavily armed mercenaries wearing advanced tactical gear.
