Chapter 7 - The Blackout
The heart monitor began to emit a terrifying, continuous beep.
Alexei was suffocating right in front of them.
Maria did not wait for Dmitri to give an order.
She sprinted to the side of the bed and ripped the oxygen mask off Alexei's pale face.
"He needs real air!" Maria yelled.
Dmitri rushed over and began performing violent chest compressions.
"Come on, boss, you do not die like this!"
Maria watched the monitor anxiously, praying for a change.
Suddenly, a massive explosion shook the foundation of the entire mansion.
The explosion was so loud it made Maria's ears ring.
The bright fluorescent lights in the medical bay flickered once and died completely.
Total darkness consumed the underground room.
The emergency backup generators failed to turn on.
Dmitri stopped his compressions, his heavy breathing echoing in the black room.
"They just blew up the main power grid outside."
Heavy gunfire erupted from the grounds above them.
The Romano family mercenaries had breached the perimeter.
Dmitri grabbed Maria by the arm in the pitch blackness.

A heavy, metallic thud came from the hallway right outside their door.
