Chapter 2 - The Security Footage
Maria stared down the dark barrel of the gun.
She could not breathe.
"I did not poison him!" she screamed, her voice cracking with terror.
Sophie began to cry, burying her face in her mother's neck.
"I just poured the water and set the tray down."
Dmitri kept his hand perfectly steady.
"Nobody else entered this room for the past hour."
One of the security guards stepped forward with a digital tablet in his hand.
"Boss, you need to look at the hallway cameras."
Dmitri snatched the tablet while keeping the gun aimed at Maria's chest.
He tapped the screen to play the security footage from ten minutes ago.
The video showed Maria pushing the linen cart down the hall.
It also showed a tall figure in a dark suit stopping by the cart when Maria turned her back.
The figure quickly dropped a small vial into the coffee pot.
Dmitri paused the video and zoomed in on the man's face.
It was Leo, the head of the night shift security team.
Dmitri lowered his weapon slowly.

Before anyone could speak, the two-way radio on Dmitri's belt crackled to life.
"This is the front gate, we have a major problem."
