Chapter 4 - The Alibi

Daniel realized his home was no longer a safe place for his family.

He packed a small bag and drove Lily to a secure hotel downtown.

He hired two private armed security guards to stand outside their door.

Lily sat quietly on the hotel bed, clutching her favorite teddy bear.

Daniel sat beside her and gently held her small hands.

"Lily, how did you know the tea was bad?" Daniel asked softly.

The little girl looked down at her shoes and hesitated.

"I don't want to get in trouble," she whispered.

"You are not in trouble, sweetie, you saved my life," Daniel promised.

Lily took a deep breath and looked up at her father.

"The man in the closet told me," she said clearly.

Daniel felt a cold chill run down his spine.

"What man in the closet, Lily?" he asked, trying to stay calm.

"The man who lives behind the walls in my playroom," she explained.

"He talks to me when you are at work."

"He said Nora put bad medicine in your cup to make you sleep forever."

Daniel grabbed his laptop from his bag and logged into the home security cameras.

He rewound the footage of Lily's playroom from earlier that afternoon.

The video showed Lily playing alone with her dollhouse.

Suddenly, a small section of the wood paneling slid open.

A man wearing a black ski mask leaned out of the hidden space.

He whispered something to Lily and then vanished back into the wall.

Daniel zoomed in on the man's wrist just before he disappeared.

The man was wearing a very distinct, custom-made Rolex watch.

It was the exact same watch Daniel had bought for his business partner, Marcus.

Daniel's phone suddenly vibrated on the hotel nightstand.

It was an incoming call from Marcus.

Daniel answered the phone and held it to his ear without speaking.

"Daniel, we have a massive problem," Marcus panicked on the other end.

"Nora just showed up at my house with a gun."
