Chapter 1 - The Shattered Cup

Six-year-old Lily suddenly screamed as Daniel lifted the teacup toward his lips.

Before she could reach him, Nora grabbed Lily and forcefully dragged her backward.

"Stop right now!" Nora shouted.

Lily struggled wildly until her beautiful silk dress ripped down the seam.

Then she broke free and charged toward the heavy oak dining table.

With all her tiny might, she shoved the edge of the wood.

The sudden movement made the table jump.

Daniel dropped the porcelain cup in absolute shock.

A loud crash echoed through the room as the cup shattered.

The hot tea spread across the white marble floor.

Then the liquid began hissing and foaming violently against the stone.

Daniel stared down at the bubbling mess in disbelief.

Lily raised a trembling little finger toward Nora.

"She made it for you!" Lily cried out.

Nora’s face instantly lost all of its color.

Daniel understood enough in that single terrifying moment.

He stepped aggressively toward Nora.

A sharp slap echoed across the dining room as his hand struck her cheek.

"You tried to poison me in front of my daughter?" he demanded.

Nora held her red cheek and slowly looked up at him.

Instead of crying or begging, a cold and twisted smile crept onto her face.

"You are so busy worrying about your own cup, Daniel," Nora whispered.

She pointed a manicured finger toward the other side of the table.

"You should probably check what your precious daughter just finished drinking."
