Chapter 10 - The Final Rescue

Sarah pressed the red button again and again in frantic desperation.
Nora smiled and pulled a small black jamming device from her belt.
"Federal jammers block all remote radio frequencies in a one-mile radius," Nora explained.
Red and blue police lights suddenly flooded the entire shipyard from every direction.
Dozens of armored SWAT vehicles crashed through the chain-link fences.
Helicopters hovered above, shining massive spotlights down on the armed men.
Sarah's mercenaries immediately dropped their weapons and raised their hands in surrender.
Sarah tried to run toward the water, but Nora tackled her hard onto the wet concrete.
Daniel ignored the chaos and fell to his knees, wrapping his arms around Lily.
He held his daughter so tightly he promised himself he would never let her go.
The nightmare was finally over, and the truth was entirely out in the open.
The police dragged a screaming and cursing Sarah away in heavy iron handcuffs.
Nora walked over to Daniel and gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
"You kept your promise," Daniel said, looking up at the brave agent.
"My job is done here, Daniel, you and Lily are finally safe," Nora smiled warmly.
She turned and walked into the sea of flashing police lights, disappearing into the night.
A few weeks later, life returned to a peaceful and happy routine for Daniel and Lily.
The cartel was dismantled using the evidence on the decrypted hard drive.
Daniel read a bedtime story to Lily in her freshly painted, secure bedroom.
He kissed her forehead and tucked the warm blankets up to her chin.
"Goodnight, my brave little angel," Daniel whispered, feeling truly happy again.
He reached over and clicked off the small bedside lamp.
"Daddy, the man in the closet says he is proud of you," Lily whispered in the dark.
Daniel froze completely, his hand still resting on the lamp switch.

Marcus had died in the shootout weeks ago.
He looked toward the closet door as it slowly began to creak open on its own.
