Chapter 5 - The Imposter's Game

Daniel grabbed Sarah and Lily, rushing them toward the small bathroom at the back of the motel room.

"Lock the door and do not come out no matter what you hear," Daniel whispered fiercely.

Sarah nodded, her eyes wide with terror as she pulled Lily inside and clicked the lock shut.

Daniel backed away from the bathroom, scanning the room for anything he could use as a weapon.

He picked up a heavy glass lamp from the nightstand and wrapped the cord around his wrist.

The motel room door suddenly splintered violently inward.

The imposter kicked the door open, stepping into the room with her gun raised.

"Where are they, Daniel?" she asked casually, shaking the rain from her dark hair.

"Who are you?" Daniel demanded, tightening his grip on the heavy lamp.

The woman smiled, a twisted and cruel expression that sent chills down his spine.

"My real name is Evelyn, and I was hired to slowly destroy your life," she confessed.

"Hired by who?" Daniel yelled, stepping cautiously to the side.

"By the man who is currently emptying your entire company bank accounts while you hide in this dirty motel," Evelyn laughed.

Before she could pull the trigger, Daniel threw the heavy glass lamp directly at her face.

The lamp shattered against Evelyn's shoulder, throwing off her aim as the gun fired a silenced bullet into the mattress.

Daniel lunged forward, tackling the imposter to the cheap carpet.

They fought viciously on the floor, smashing into the small wooden coffee table.

Evelyn was incredibly strong, throwing a brutal punch that caught Daniel in the jaw.

He tasted blood, but adrenaline fueled his anger.

Daniel twisted her wrist sharply, forcing her to drop the weapon.

He kicked the gun under the bed and pinned her down, pressing his forearm against her throat.

"Tell me who hired you, right now!" Daniel roared.

Evelyn gasped for air, struggling uselessly against his weight.

"It was Mark, your lawyer," she choked out with a bloody smile.

Daniel froze, absolute betrayal washing over him as he realized his best friend was the mastermind.

Suddenly, a red laser dot appeared directly on the center of Daniel's chest, shining through the open motel window.
