Chapter 9 - The Freezing Depths

Mark pulled the metal pin from the grenade with his teeth, his face twisted into a mask of pure, suicidal madness.

He intended to blow up the entire section of the wooden pier, taking all of us down with him.

I screamed as he raised his arm to throw the explosive directly toward the crates where Dominic and I were hiding.

Dominic did not hesitate for even a fraction of a second.

He sprinted out from behind our cover, completely ignoring the Russian bullets grazing his expensive suit.

Dominic slammed his massive body into Mark with the terrifying force of a runaway freight train.

The violent impact sent both men flying off the edge of the pier and crashing into the freezing, dark ocean below.

I crawled desperately to the edge of the broken wood, screaming Dominic’s name into the howling wind.

Less than two seconds later, a muffled, violent explosion erupted from deep beneath the dark waves.

A massive plume of water shot up into the night sky, raining down on the chaotic dock like a heavy storm.

The shockwave knocked the remaining Russian mercenaries off their feet, allowing Dominic’s men to finally secure the area.

I stared down into the swirling, black water, praying for Dominic to break the surface and take a breath.

The ocean remained completely silent, swallowing the two men without a single trace.

Tears of pure devastation streamed down my face as the cold reality set in.

Dominic had just sacrificed his own life to ensure that the mother of his children would survive.

His top enforcer gently pulled me away from the edge, rushing me back inside the warehouse where the underground doctor was waiting.

With Mark dead, the detonator threat was gone, and the doctor was finally able to fix the incubator.

I collapsed onto the cold medical floor, sobbing uncontrollably for the villain who had died a hero.

Suddenly, the heavy metal doors of the warehouse violently crashed open.
