Chapter 10 - The Vow

A soaking wet, heavily bleeding figure stumbled into the brightly lit medical room.

It was Dominic, gasping for air and clutching a severe shrapnel wound on his side.

He had managed to kick away from Mark just a second before the grenade detonated in the deep water.

I rushed across the room and threw my arms around his freezing neck, weeping with overwhelming joy.

He held me tightly against his chest, burying his face in my hair as he finally let his guard down.

Six months later, the terrifying nightmares of that bloody night felt like a distant, fading memory.

Dominic had completely dismantled the rival Russian syndicate, securing absolute peace for our new family.

My beautiful twins, a boy and a girl, were perfectly healthy and growing stronger every single day.

We stood together on the sunlit balcony of his newly rebuilt, impenetrable estate, watching our babies sleep in the nursery.

Dominic placed a warm, gentle kiss on my shoulder, promising that he would spend the rest of his life protecting us.

I leaned into his strong embrace, finally feeling the true, unwavering love that I had always deserved.

Our peaceful morning was suddenly interrupted by the heavy footsteps of Dominic’s head of security.

The guard looked extremely nervous as he handed Dominic a small, unmarked wooden box that had been left at the front gates.

I watched in confusion as Dominic slowly lifted the lid, his jaw clenching tightly as the color drained from his face.

Inside the box was a tiny, blood-stained baby shoe and a handwritten note written on pristine white parchment.

The chilling note simply read: “Mark was just a middleman, and the real debt is still owed.”
