Chapter 2 - The Stolen Bloodline

I woke up hours later to the rhythmic, steady beeping of a heart monitor.

The harsh fluorescent lights of the recovery room made my heavy eyes water.

I instinctively reached down to touch my stomach, panicking when I felt that it was completely flat.

A nurse rushed over to my bedside, gently placing a warm hand on my trembling shoulder.

She quietly assured me that my twins had survived the emergency surgery and were resting safely in the neonatal intensive care unit.

A massive wave of relief washed over me, but it was immediately shattered by the sound of the heavy wooden door swinging open.

Dominic Russo walked into my private room, looking like a lethal predator in his custom Italian suit.

He pulled a chair up to my bedside and sat down with terrifying, calculated grace.

I demanded to know why a notorious crime boss was standing in my hospital room.

Dominic leaned forward, his dark eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my breath catch.

He explained that Mark was a degenerate gambler who owed the Russo crime syndicate over ten million dollars.

My treacherous husband had secretly pledged my unborn babies to the mafia as collateral before fleeing to Mexico.

Tears of absolute horror streamed down my face as I realized the true depth of Mark’s evil betrayal.

I begged Dominic to take whatever was left of my life and spare my innocent children.

Dominic slowly reached out and wiped a tear from my cheek with a surprisingly gentle thumb.

He stated that he was not here to collect a financial debt from a broken woman.

Before he could explain his true intentions, the chief of surgery nervously walked into the room holding a thick medical file.

The doctor looked at Dominic with extreme fear, his hands visibly shaking as he opened the folder.

“Mister Russo, we rushed the genetic testing exactly as you demanded,” the doctor stammered.

The doctor swallowed hard before delivering the impossible news.

“The DNA results confirm that Mark is not the biological father of these twins.”

Dominic smiled coldly, looking back at me with a terrifying sense of ownership.

“I already knew that,” Dominic whispered, “because they belong to me.”
