Chapter 9 - The Ultimate Betrayal
Mark’s unhinged laughter echoed sickeningly off the cold walls of the interrogation room.
He stared directly at Julian, a sick, victorious grin spreading slowly across his bruised face.
Mark loudly announced that Julian was the one who originally set up all the offshore accounts.
He claimed Julian had maliciously orchestrated the entire financial fraud to steal their late father's company.
Emily froze instantly, her delicate hand hovering defensively over the brass doorknob.
She slowly turned to look at Julian, desperately searching his dark eyes for any sign of deception.
Julian’s handsome face remained completely impassive, his posture rigid and unbothered.
Mark sneered maliciously, telling Emily she was a massive fool for trusting the black sheep of the Carter family.
He boldly stated Julian only saved her to ensure Mark took the ultimate fall for the missing millions.
The tense silence in the small room grew incredibly heavy and suffocating.
Emily felt a sickening wave of nausea wash over her as terrible doubt began to creep into her mind.
She took a small step away from Julian, clutching the signed divorce papers tightly to her chest.
Julian finally spoke, his deep voice calm and terrifyingly steady in the quiet room.
He looked Mark dead in the eye and casually called him a pathetic, desperate liar.
Julian smoothly pulled a small black flash drive from his pocket and tossed it onto the metal table.
He told Mark that the drive contained every single IP address and encrypted digital signature from the fraud accounts.
They all traced perfectly and undeniably back to Mark's personal laptop and Madison's private server.
Julian explained he had spent the last two years gathering this evidence specifically to protect the family legacy from Mark.
He proudly stated he had never touched a single, solitary cent of the stolen money.
Mark’s victorious, smug grin vanished instantly, replaced by sheer, undeniable panic.
He violently lunged at the table, trying to grab the flash drive, but the heavy chains held him back.
Emily exhaled a long, incredibly shaky breath, realizing Mark was just trying to poison her mind one last time.
She lovingly linked her arm firmly through Julian's, showing Mark exactly whose side she was on.
They confidently walked out of the room together, leaving Mark screaming wildly in absolute defeat.
Later that evening, a SWAT team finally raided Madison's luxury downtown apartment.
They found her frantically packing a large suitcase with millions in stolen, untraceable cash.
She was violently arrested on the spot, screaming vicious curses at Mark for ruining her perfect life.
The corrupt, lavish empire Mark and Madison had built was officially and totally destroyed.
Emily finally returned to the private hospital to joyfully prepare her babies for the journey home.
As she happily packed their tiny clothes, the lead doctor rushed frantically into the room.
