Chapter 7 - The Rescue

Emily stared wildly at the heavy wooden door, her mind racing for any possible way out.

She looked back at the three fragile incubators and knew she absolutely could not surrender.

The mercenary on the other side of the door began to loudly and slowly count down from ten.

Nine, eight, seven, the numbers echoed through the room like a terrifying death sentence.

Emily quickly wheeled the heavy incubators toward the back wall, farthest away from the potential blast zone.

She dragged a heavy medical supply cabinet in front of them as a desperate makeshift barricade.

Four, three, two, the masked man outside yelled.

Just as he yelled the final number, a massive, structural crash shook the entire hallway.

It wasn't an explosion from the door.

It was the unmistakable sound of a police tactical vehicle smashing completely through the front lobby of the private clinic.

Sirens wailed aggressively in the distance, growing louder by the exact second.

Emily heard the mercenary curse loudly before his heavy footsteps frantically retreated down the hall.

Moments later, loud voices belonging to officers wearing heavy tactical gear flooded the corridor.

Emily kept her tight grip on the metal pole, refusing to move an inch until she heard a familiar voice.

Finally, Julian weakly called her name from the other side of the barricaded door.

She threw the deadbolt open and gasped at the sight.

Julian was clutching his shoulder, dark blood soaking through his white shirt, but he was very much alive.

Paramedics rushed past them into the room, expertly checking on the babies and securing the floor.

Julian managed a painful smile and softly told Emily they had won.

He had triggered a silent alarm linked directly to the FBI task force investigating Mark's embezzlement.

The fleeing mercenaries had been swiftly captured alive in the parking lot.

They immediately confessed to the authorities that Madison Vale had hired them to eliminate a witness.

Madison’s perfect, calculated plan had completely unraveled in a matter of bloody minutes.

Back at the busy police precinct, the lead detective walked into Mark's miserable cell.

He casually threw a set of car keys onto the hard metal cot.

The detective informed Mark that all murder charges against him were officially being dropped.

Emily had been found alive and safe, and Madison was now the prime suspect for a massive attempted murder conspiracy.

Mark let out a hysterical laugh of pure relief, foolishly thinking his nightmare was finally over.

He told the detective he was ready to go home, pack his things, and see his wife.

The detective looked down at him with absolute, unfiltered disgust.

He coldly told Mark he wasn't going anywhere today.

The FBI was waiting in the very next room to officially charge him with corporate fraud and federal racketeering.
