Chapter 8 - The Ransom

The agonizing sound of the armored van screeching away into the dark darkness echoed repeatedly and terrifyingly in my mind.
I collapsed completely onto the cold hardwood floor, violently sobbing as the horrifying reality of my daughter’s brutal abduction set in.
David did not offer any soft words of comfort, because a mafia boss does not mourn when he is preparing for absolute war.
He ruthlessly ripped the remaining bandages from his chest, entirely ignoring the fresh blood trickling down his heavily scarred torso.
He ordered Silas to instantly mobilize every single heavily armed soldier currently loyal to the Carter crime family.
"They are going to deeply regret the day they decided to ever touch my blood," David vowed, aggressively loading a fresh magazine into his assault rifle.
Within twenty brief minutes, Silas had successfully tracked the encrypted GPS signal from the armored van to an abandoned shipping warehouse near the city docks.
I aggressively demanded to go with them, fiercely refusing to sit helplessly in a mansion while my daughter was surrounded by ruthless killers.
David looked deeply into my desperate eyes and surprisingly nodded, handing me a small, loaded handgun for my own personal protection.
We drove rapidly to the highly desolate docks in a massive convoy of entirely blacked-out, heavily armored vehicles.
The freezing Chicago rain pounded aggressively against the windshield as we slowly approached the massive, rusting metal warehouse.
David expertly instructed his elite men to silently surround the perimeter and completely block every possible exit strategy the Romanos might possess.
He kicked the heavy metal doors open entirely, stepping boldly and fearlessly into the dim, incredibly massive industrial space.
Standing proudly in the dead center of the massive room was Vincenzo Romano, the highly ruthless head of the rival crime family.
He was smiling maliciously, holding a massive silver revolver completely steady and aimed directly at Chloe's fragile head.
Dr. Winters was lying entirely motionless on the concrete floor nearby, having already been brutally executed for outliving her usefulness.
"Welcome to the complete end of your pathetic reign, David," Vincenzo sneered, thoroughly enjoying his absolute moment of total triumph.
"Drop every single weapon you have and get on your knees, or I will gladly paint this floor with your daughter's rare blood."
I screamed loudly for Vincenzo to let her go, but David simply raised his hand to demand absolute, unquestioned silence.
He stared coldly at his greatest enemy, completely calculating the impossible odds of miraculously saving our child.
Slowly, incredibly deliberately, David dropped his heavy assault rifle loudly onto the echoing concrete floor.

He completely unbuckled his tactical holster, letting his remaining handguns clatter incredibly loudly onto the ground.
He slowly lowered his massive, bleeding body entirely onto his knees, completely surrendering his incredible power to save his little girl.
