Chapter 2 - The Interrogation

Silas moved through the crowded hospital lobby like a shark gliding effortlessly through bloody water.

Every doctor and nurse instantly stepped out of his path, terrified by the heavy gun bulging beneath his tailored suit jacket.

I frantically pressed the elevator button over and over again, praying for the metal doors to slide shut.

The mechanical chime sounded, but a large, calloused hand shot out and gripped the edge of the metal door.

Silas pried the elevator doors open effortlessly and stepped into the small, confined space with us.

"Hello, Natasha," he said, his gravelly voice echoing off the stainless steel walls.

"It has been a very long time since you disappeared into the dead of night."

I pulled Chloe firmly behind my legs, shielding her small body from his predatory gaze.

I forced myself to stand tall and look him directly in the eyes.

"I am just here visiting a sick relative, Silas," I lied, my voice remarkably steady despite the terror consuming my chest.

"We are leaving now, so I suggest you let us pass before I call the police."

Silas let out a low, menacing chuckle that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up entirely.

"The police outside are currently on our payroll, so I wouldn't bother making that phone call," he replied casually.

He slowly lowered his gaze to look at the little girl hiding nervously behind my knees.

Chloe peeked out cautiously, clutching her purple horse drawing tightly against her chest.

Silas froze completely as he looked directly into her striking, icy blue eyes.

I saw the exact moment the realization hit him, as his entire demeanor shifted from amused to incredibly dangerous.

"She has his eyes," Silas whispered, taking a slow step closer to us.

"She has the exact same eyes as the man bleeding out on the surgical table upstairs."

"She is just a child, Silas, please leave her alone," I demanded, pushing my hand aggressively against his broad chest.

He ignored me entirely, reaching out to gently take the small plastic juice cup Chloe was holding.

"I am going to take this cup to the private lab on the third floor to run a rapid DNA test," he stated coldly.

"If it tells me what I think it is going to tell me, David is going to want to have a very long conversation with you."

He grabbed my arm tightly and dragged both of us out of the elevator toward a heavily guarded VIP waiting room.

He shoved us inside and locked the heavy wooden door, trapping us entirely.

I paced the room frantically for twenty agonizing minutes, trying to figure out a way to break the window and escape.

Suddenly, the heavy door clicked open, and a terrified hospital nurse rushed into the room.

She looked at me with wide, panicked eyes and completely ignored Silas standing menacingly in the hallway.

"He is awake," the nurse gasped, clutching her medical clipboard tightly against her chest.

"Mr. Carter is completely conscious, and he is violently demanding to see the exact woman who donated the blood."
