Chapter 7 - The Traitor

The terrifying realization that a deadly mole was living inside the safe house sent a wave of absolute paranoia washing heavily over me.

Silas immediately ordered a total lockdown of the massive mansion, aggressively demanding that every single guard hand over their communication devices.

I quickly pulled Chloe back into the bedroom, completely abandoning my desperate, foolish plan to escape into the dangerous night.

David was violently awakened by the commotion, completely ignoring his agonizing surgical wounds as he instinctively grabbed his pistol.

"Who possesses the security clearance to access this specific location?" David demanded, his voice echoing with absolute, terrifying authority.

"Only myself, the senior lieutenants, and the private medical team that treated you," Silas replied, his eyes scanning the room incredibly suspiciously.

David’s terrifying gaze slowly turned toward the far corner of the room, where the medical staff had been frantically packing their medical equipment.

Dr. Winters, the exact same doctor who had facilitated Chloe’s initial blood donation, was suddenly backing away toward the heavy glass exit doors.

She looked incredibly pale and was trembling violently, clutching her heavy medical bag tightly against her chest.

"Elena," David stated coldly, recognizing the overwhelming guilt painted clearly and undeniably across her terrified face.

"You were the only person who knew I was being moved before we even left the hospital basement."

I stared at the highly respected doctor in absolute disbelief, unable to comprehend how a brilliant surgeon could be working secretly for the mafia.

Dr. Winters suddenly reached deeply into her medical bag and pulled out a small, highly customized silver pistol.

She aimed the trembling weapon directly at Chloe’s head, causing my heart to completely and utterly stop beating.

"I am so sorry, Natasha," Dr. Winters cried, terrified tears streaming rapidly down her panicked face.

"The Romanos bought my massive underground gambling debts, and they promised to brutally kill my entire family if I didn't deliver the boss."

"Put the gun down, Elena, and I promise your death will be relatively quick," David offered, his voice completely devoid of any human mercy.

Instead of peacefully surrendering, Dr. Winters violently grabbed Chloe by the arm and yanked her forcefully against her chest.

She pressed the cold metal barrel of the pistol directly against my terrified daughter's tiny temple.

"If anyone moves a single muscle, I will blow this little girl's brains entirely out," she screamed hysterically.

She slowly backed out of the broken glass door, dragging my screaming daughter ruthlessly into the dark, rainy night.

I tried to frantically run after them, but Silas grabbed my waist and held me tightly to prevent me from getting shot.

A heavily armored black van suddenly screeched to a halt in the driveway, and Dr. Winters threw Chloe inside before jumping quickly in after her.

The heavy van sped rapidly away into the darkness, taking my entire beautiful world away with it.
