Chapter 9 - The Dark Confrontation
Sarah stepped slowly into the dark cabin, the heavy hunting rifle remaining pointed directly at my pounding heart.
The federal marshal raised his handgun, but Sarah was incredibly fast and fired a warning shot into the ceiling.
She ordered him to drop his weapon and kick it away, threatening to shoot me instantly if he refused.
The marshal complied, reluctantly sliding his black pistol across the wooden floorboards into the dark shadows.
Sarah laughed, a hollow and terrifying sound that perfectly echoed the cruelty of my entire childhood.
She bragged that she had always been the strongest, the smartest, and the only true survivor in our family.
She blamed me entirely for ruining her perfect life and stealing the massive insurance payout she felt she deserved.
I slowly stood up from the couch, cradling my broken wrist against my chest with my good hand.
I told her that she was nothing but a pathetic, manipulating coward who only knew how to hurt weaker people.
Her psychotic smile instantly vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated rage.
She lunged forward, raising the heavy wooden stock of the rifle to brutally smash my skull.
But I had anticipated her violent, predictable reaction perfectly.
I ducked gracefully under her wild swing, using my good arm to shove a heavy oak chair directly into her path.
Sarah tripped hard over the solid furniture, dropping the rifle as she crashed violently onto the floorboards.
I dove toward the discarded weapon, desperate to secure it before she could recover her balance.
Sarah scrambled forward and grabbed my injured ankle, aggressively yanking me backward onto the hard ground.
She climbed on top of me, her strong hands reaching for my throat to choke the absolute life out of me.

Suddenly, a bright blue arc of electricity illuminated the dark room with a loud, terrifying crackle.
Mrs. Chen stepped out from the shadows, pressing a high-voltage military taser directly into Sarah's muscular neck.
