Chapter 8 - The Safe House

Agent Miller immediately ordered a citywide manhunt for my dangerously unstable, heavily armed sister.

She told me it was too dangerous for me to stay in the city while Sarah was actively hunting me down.

Mrs. Chen and I were escorted by two heavily armed federal marshals to a highly secure safe house in the mountains.

The cabin was completely isolated, surrounded by dense pine trees and equipped with bulletproof glass.

I finally felt a small sense of genuine security as I sat by the warm, crackling stone fireplace.

Mrs. Chen brewed a pot of herbal tea and told me stories about her wild days in counterintelligence.

For three days, we lived in absolute peace while the FBI systematically dismantled my parents' corrupt empire.

My parents were denied bail and remained locked in federal holding cells, facing decades in a maximum-security prison.

But the anxiety constantly lingered in the back of my mind because Sarah was still out there somewhere.

On the fourth night, a massive thunderstorm rolled over the mountain, violently shaking the walls of the wooden cabin.

The harsh wind howled through the trees, making it impossible to hear anything outside the thick walls.

Suddenly, the bright lights in the cabin flickered wildly and died completely, plunging us into absolute darkness.

One of the federal marshals drew his weapon and cautiously approached the front door to check the perimeter.

Before he could even turn the brass handle, the heavy wooden door was violently kicked off its steel hinges.

A blinding flash of lightning illuminated the terrifying silhouette standing in the ruined doorway.

Sarah stood there, completely soaked by the freezing rain, holding the heavy hunting rifle perfectly steady.

She had managed to bypass the sophisticated federal security perimeter and eliminate the outside guards.

She aimed the barrel of the rifle directly at my chest, a psychotic, triumphant smile twisting her wet face.
