Chapter 4 - The Shadow Syndicate

I refused to hand Claire five million dollars based on a tearful confession alone.

Instead, I immediately activated my private corporate security team, a group of highly trained ex-military operatives.

I instructed them to dig into every single financial transaction Ethan had made over the last three years.

I also decided to visit the underground headquarters of the Obsidian Syndicate myself.

Decades ago, before I built my legal empire, I ran high-stakes poker games in the back rooms of commercial kitchens.

I knew exactly how the criminal underworld operated, and I knew how to speak their language.

My security chief drove me to a heavily guarded, unmarked warehouse in the industrial district.

I walked past the armed guards with absolute confidence, demanding to see the boss.

The syndicate leader, a terrifying man known only as Silas, sat behind a metal desk in a smoky office.

“Eleanor Hayes, the queen of the hospitality world, graces my humble establishment,” Silas mocked with a cold smile.

“I am here to settle the five million dollar debt incurred by my foolish son,” I stated directly.

Silas chuckled and pulled a thick, blood-stained folder from his desk drawer.

“Your son is certainly a fool, but he is not the one who borrowed the money,” Silas revealed.

He slid the folder across the metal desk toward me.

I opened the file and stared at the original loan contract, my blood running completely cold.

The signature at the bottom of the page did not belong to Ethan.

It belonged to Claire, who had meticulously forged my son’s name to fund her own secret gambling addiction.

“She lost the money on illegal sports betting, and she pinned the entire debt on your boy,” Silas explained.

I closed the folder, feeling a terrifying wave of maternal rage wash over my entire body.

“I will pay the debt in full tomorrow morning, provided you keep this contract entirely confidential,” I negotiated.

Silas agreed, his greedy eyes gleaming at the promise of guaranteed cash.

I left the warehouse and immediately dialed Ethan’s private cell phone.

“Mom, please tell me you are going to help us,” Ethan begged the second he answered.

“I am going to help you, Ethan, but you need to understand that your wife is completely destroying your life.”
