Chapter 9 - The Rescue

The heavily armored tactical team flooded into the hallway, their laser sights cutting through the darkness.

Greg held my terrified mother tightly against his chest, using her entirely as a human shield.

"Back off, or the old woman dies right now!" Greg screamed desperately at the advancing officers.

James ignored his bleeding arm and slowly stepped forward, his eyes burning with absolute, lethal focus.

"There is absolutely nowhere left to run, Greg," James stated, his voice booming with undeniable authority.

Greg backed dangerously close to the shattered window, preparing to jump into the snowy yard.

He did not realize that the tactical team had already completely surrounded the entire perimeter of the house.

A brilliant red sniper laser appeared perfectly in the very center of Greg's forehead.

Greg froze in absolute terror, suddenly realizing he was completely and entirely trapped.

He slowly released his tight grip on my mother's hair and aggressively dropped his heavy knife.

Tactical officers instantly swarmed him, brutally tackling him to the floor and applying heavy steel handcuffs.

I rushed forward and pulled my shaking mother into a deeply desperate, emotional embrace.

Paramedics quickly entered the ruined bedroom and began treating my father's severe head injury.

Two massive officers aggressively hauled the unconscious Lauren up from the floor and handcuffed her.

As they dragged her toward the stairs, Lauren slowly opened her bruised, swollen eyes.

She looked directly at me and offered a completely twisted, terrifyingly wicked smile.

"This is not over," she whispered through her bloody teeth as they pulled her away.

The nightmare was finally ending, and the police declared our entire property completely secure.
