Chapter 9 - The Legal Trap

The corrupt police chief aggressively grabbed my wrist, attempting to force the heavy steel handcuffs onto my trembling hands.

Before the cold metal could even touch my skin, my grandfather stepped fiercely forward, placing his silver cane directly between us.

"If you lay a single, filthy finger on my granddaughter, I will personally see to it that you spend the rest of your life in federal prison," my grandfather threatened coldly.

The police chief hesitated, visibly sweating as he realized he was attempting to arrest the most powerful billionaire in the entire state.

My grandfather's lead attorney, Marcus, confidently stepped into the room holding a glowing digital tablet high in the air.

"We have high-definition security footage clearly showing the cartel assassin injecting the victim," Marcus stated with undeniable legal authority.

Marcus tapped the screen, playing the crystal-clear video that completely exonerated me of the ridiculous, fabricated attempted murder charge.

He then smoothly handed the police chief a thick, physical copy of the cyber evidence detailing the judge's massive cartel money laundering scheme.

"If you arrest her, you will be formally named as a direct co-conspirator in a massive federal racketeering case," Marcus warned smoothly.

The police chief stared at the overwhelming, undeniable evidence, his corrupt confidence completely shattering into a million pathetic pieces.

He silently holstered his handcuffs, completely abandoning his corrupt allegiance to the judge in order to desperately save his own career.

He ordered his officers to arrest the fake technician instead, rapidly retreating from the hospital ward in total, humiliating defeat.

I let out a massive breath of pure relief, knowing we had successfully neutralized their final, desperate attempt to lock me away.

"Dominic has successfully been stabilized, but he will remain in a medically induced coma for several weeks," Doctor Evans reported quietly.

With Dominic incapacitated and the criminal charges utterly destroyed, I was finally fully prepared to completely end this nightmare.

The next morning, I walked proudly back into the downtown family courthouse, flanked entirely by my grandfather and his ruthless legal team.

I wore a flawless, tailored white suit, projecting an image of absolute, untouchable strength and unyielding maternal power.

Judge Vance sat high on his wooden bench, glaring at me with eyes full of desperate, cornered malice.

He aggressively banged his heavy wooden gavel, attempting to forcefully maintain control over his rapidly crumbling courtroom.

"Due to the highly volatile nature of this case, I am officially transferring permanent custody of the twins to state protective services," the judge announced wickedly.

Before the judge could sign the fraudulent, devastating order, the heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom burst completely open.
