Chapter 2 - The Stolen Signature

I stared at my grandfather in absolute, paralyzing horror as the devastating words echoed in the quiet room.

"That is physically impossible," I argued, desperately shaking my tired head.

"My trust fund requires a highly secure biometric signature and dual authorization to access any capital."

My grandfather handed me the legal document, pointing directly to the bottom of the final page.

There, in perfect, undeniable black ink, was my exact signature authorizing the massive, dangerous loan.

"He must have drugged you and used your fingerprint while you were unconscious recovering from the emergency delivery," my grandfather deduced grimly.

A sickening wave of pure nausea violently crashed over my entire, fragile body.

Dominic had maliciously planned this complete betrayal down to the very last, terrifying detail.

He had purposely waited until I was fighting for my life in the delivery room to execute his massive financial heist.

"The syndicate he borrowed from is notoriously ruthless and they do not care about fraudulent technicalities," my grandfather warned softly.

"If the loan defaults, they will aggressively come after you and the twins to violently collect their massive debt."

I looked through the incubator glass at my tiny, helpless babies fighting bravely for every single breath.

I absolutely refused to let the man who abandoned them put their innocent lives in grave, terminal danger.

"I am not going to hide behind your money this time, Grandfather," I declared with newfound, fierce determination.

"I am going to personally rip his entire life apart piece by piece until he begs for mercy."

My grandfather smiled proudly, recognizing the undeniable Sterling fire finally burning brightly in my eyes.

"We will freeze all of his corporate assets immediately and launch a massive federal fraud investigation," my grandfather suggested.

Before we could finalize our aggressive counterattack, the head of the neonatal department rushed frantically into the room.

Doctor Evans looked incredibly pale, clutching a thick medical chart tightly against his chest.

"Audrey, I am so incredibly sorry, but we have a massive, immediate problem," the doctor said, panting heavily.

"Little Liam has developed a severe heart murmur and requires emergency corrective surgery within the next two hours."

I instantly jumped out of my chair, ignoring the sharp, shooting pain radiating entirely across my healing abdomen.

"Then prepare the operating room right now," I ordered, tears of sheer panic flooding my tired eyes.

Doctor Evans shook his head miserably and looked down at the cold hospital floor in deep shame.

"I cannot legally perform the life-saving surgery, Audrey," the doctor whispered entirely defeated.

"Dominic just filed an emergency legal injunction claiming full medical proxy as the father, strictly forbidding us from operating on the boy."
